Roue Libre
2025
This machine allows you to physically synchronize with the sound. As you pedal this bike, you can control the playback of an audio track in various ways: on the handlebars, there are two shift levers that let you change the music and the playback mode applied to it.
In the first mode, the playback speed of the sound speeds up or slows down with your pedaling speed. The tempo can race to a frenzied pace or slow to an extreme: the sound is then stretched, revealing long swaths of bass. If you pedal backward, the music rewinds and you hear the sound in reverse. The audience can play with elastic time and reshape the sound, which becomes distorted and strange. In this way, they can penetrate and observe the internal structure of the sound material.
The other 5 modes apply different effects to the music, which can be sequenced into micro-fragments, frozen on a continuous sound, looped, etc…
The playlist can be adapted for each performance to feature tracks that echo the themes of the specific event
